Frequently Asked Questions

They're two distinct registrations and most businesses need both:

  • PTEC (Professional Tax Enrolment Certificate): for the business entity or professional itself, to pay PT on its own behalf. Applies to companies, LLPs, professionals, traders, and proprietors.
  • PTRC (Professional Tax Registration Certificate): for employers who pay salaries above the PT threshold and need to deduct PT from employees and remit to the state.

A company that has employees typically needs PTEC (for the company) and PTRC (for deducting from employees). PT is a state-level tax, so rules and thresholds vary by state.
